Experience Shalom is an opportunity to get to know yourself—witnessed by community through an intensely loving growth process.
Many people are searching for a new direction in life or to deepen their spiritual journeys. Some people in partnered relationships come to find new paths in loving each other, with a desire to be fully alive in their relationships. Some come to heal old wounds that they have carried for too long and now want to lay down. Others arrive here because they need to grieve their losses and know joy once again.
We celebrate the body’s wisdom and its gifts. You can learn to unblock the "stuck" places and open your heart once again. The retreat takes place within a circle of people, supported by intentional loving, where you can experience a focused time for your own individual work.
In the 1970s, a clergyperson realized that love was not really being practiced by the Christian church or by its members, so he sought to practice what he preached within the context of a retreat center in Livingston Manor, NY, called Shalom Mountain.
There, we learned, practiced, and now bring to you the Principles and Skills of Loving that echo what our teachers have taught us about love:
Experiencing Shalom has these essential elements:
Angela earned a Master of Social Work degree from Widener University in 1999 and went on to complete the Core Energetics Practitioner certification in 2019. In Spring 2024, she completed Shalom Retreat Leadership Training at Shalom Mountain. This will be Angela's first time co-leading a Shalom weekend.
Senior Minister of Third Congregational Church in Middletown, CT, Daniel has attained the Doctor of Ministry degree in Pastoral Care and Counseling through Pacific School of Religion (Berkeley). Killam's Point Conference Center offers state-of-the-art facilities and a stunning waterfront location, making it an ideal choice for our retreats.
Extending into Long Island Sound, Killam's Point Conference Center is a quiet refuge of undisturbed woodland, salt marsh, and rocky tidal area. Killam's Point is 8 miles from New Haven, 45 miles from Hartford and New London. The First Congregational Church of Branford is the owner of the 50 acre property, one of the largest privately held undeveloped parcels on the Connecticut shore. The Point House contains three dorm-style bedrooms for up to 20 people. It has two full baths upstairs, as well as a handicapped-accessible lavatory on the first floor.

While both facilitators of Experience Shalom have been trained in the Shalom Process, they have made alterations to the content and flow of the weekend, thereby diverging from a traditional Shalom Retreat at Shalom Mountain in Livingston Manor, NY. It is still in keeping with the Shalom Process, and so, we can say with absolute clarity that this Shalom-style retreat is in keeping with the principles of what one might experience at Shalom Mountain.

Please “field strip” all cigarette butts and dispose of properly.
To preserve a safe and sacred space, we ask for your support in maintaining an alcohol and recreational drug-free environment for Experience Shalom events.
Items: Please bring your own bedding for a single mattress (optional sleeping bag), pillows for bed, bolster pillows for sitting, bath towels, toiletries, phone/device charger, water bottle, bug spray, a flashlight, yoga mat, and your journal with a writing utensil.
Sacred Object: We also ask that you bring a sacred object to place on the altar. This might be a religious item like a menorah or a Qur'an or a cross. This might be a photo of a deceased relative or a pet that we left behind for the weekend.
Food: Finally, bring a dish to share for our Thursday gathering meal. Snacks for yourself (or perhaps to share). Those with special diets should also bring enough food for themselves for the weekend. Those with special diets, email Chris, our chef, at christinalherzog@yahoo.com to see if your needs can be accommodated, or if you will need to supplement with your own food. In general, the menu is whole grain and plant-forward.
An open mind: A willingness to learn and grow, to listen to others without judgment, and to trust the process.
